DARE WE?
A SONG FOR THE DISPLACED AT CHRISTMAS
An extract from the Demo Guide tracks that singers will be working with
Dare we? For the displaced at Christmas
Composer - Matt Finch Lyrics - Mel Lawman
Musical arrangement and additions - Owain Coleman and Tom Cory
Dare We? (for the displaced at Christmas) started as a song for those who have needed courage and strength in the face of adversity to seek a safe place to belong. With the Ukrainian crisis in such sharp focus and as winter and indeed Christmas approaches, our thoughts turn to how refugee families might be feeling. Not all who are displaced view Christmas in a religious context, but a desire to share peaceful surroundings and hopefully find some joy, at this special time of year, is common to all.

“Dare we believe
We can belong?
Sharing our dreams in song!
Dare We? Yes!"
We can belong?
Sharing our dreams in song!
Dare We? Yes!"

Once the recording is complete, we will be raising money with donations for the International Rescue Committee.
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) was founded in 1933 by Albert Einstein, to provide humanitarian assistance to refugees fleeing from Nazi Germany. The organization then went on to deliver aid to refugees from around Europe, such as Italy and Spain, that were also fleeing conflicts. Today, the IRC works in Ukraine and surrounding countries to support Ukrainian refugees. |
TO RECORD YOUR SINGING PLEASE COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING STEPS
To record, you will need two devices (e.g. phones, tablets, computers): a first one with headphones so that you can listen to the backing track while you sing and a second one to record your singing on.
1. Register your name and email address using the form below and then download the full track from this dropbox link and listen to the finished song. This is what you will be singing.
2. Download either the melody learning track or the harmony learning track from the same dropbox link - you choose, or do both!
3. Learn your musical line so you can confidently sing it whilst listening to the track on headphones
4. Find a quiet place to record - no background noise please
5. Play the music through the headphones on the first device and, on the second device, record yourself singing. The recording of your singing will be just signing without a backing track – we will add that later! MP3 is preferable but WAV or other iPhone format will be OK. Various apps are available, such as an MP3 recorder, voice notes, or other recorder, OR you can take a video of yourself (landscape, please). Bear in mind, though, larger files, such as video files, will take longer to upload).
6.Listen back and make sure your singing is not too quiet OR, indeed, that it's not too loud and distorting on your phone. Re-do the recording if necessary – try moving the recorder closer or further away to vary the level.
7. Name the finished audio/video recording file as your full name (first name and surname) and upload it to the “Melody for Dare We” or "Harmony for Dare we" Dropbox folder.
8. Please upload to the "Other Media" Dropbox folder a photo of yourself in England and/or Ukraine; and, feel free, if you like, to upload to the same folder a 10 second video of you waving, smiling, sending a heart, peace, shaking hands etc. BUT, please ensure the file name for anything you upload includes your full name.
9. make sure you do all this by midnight 23rd October 2022.
Thank you for being involved in this project
